Boater Safety dates: May 5 & 6. Attendance both evenings is required. Location: Wayland Transportation Building, 851 Wildcat Drive, Wayland. Students are asked to bring a notebook and pencil to class.
Boater Safety is taught by the Allegan County Sherriff's Department Marine Division. The course will cover the safe operation of personal watercraft, age requirements for operators of different types of watercraft, equipment and registration requirements for various types of watercraft, personal flotation devices, and "rules of the road" for boaters. Boater Safety Certificates are required for children age 12-15 who wish to operate a motorboat in Michigan; anyone born after 12/31/1978 who wish to operate a personal watercraft; or any adult who will be supervising a child age 12 or 13 in the operation of a personal watercraft. Adults are encouraged to attend with their child. No minimum age requirement however, students under 10 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
